Body twists#1853

Hey!

I’m really struggling to do the twists right. The first two weeks I just twisted my core with my hands pushing the ground and getting assisted with my knee, that was super easy. But I don’t think that’s how you’re supposed to do them. So I tried not using my hands that much, but I really don’t seem to be able to really “pull/push” the muscles that you need for them. Is it a lack of mind/body connection? Now I’m just trying to look back with my whole body and then holding that. But it isn’t difficult, but only because I really can’t turn that much.

Do you guys have any tips? Thanks!

Hey. This is Chrys, one of the trainers at Hybrid.

Honestly, I wouldn’t overthink the mind-muscle connection here too much.

With the twists, the goal is mainly to rotate as far as you comfortably can and hold that position with control. You don’t need to force a huge range or feel some crazy intense contraction for it to “count.”

Using your hands a little for support is fine, especially while you’re learning the movement. I’d just try not to completely push yourself into the twist with your arms. Let your torso do most of the work and use the hands more like support.

And if your range is small right now, that’s okay. Work with the range you have and let it improve over time. Don’t crank yourself farther just because it doesn’t feel hard enough. Basically, controlled and comfortable beats forcing it.

Thanks!

I’ve since learned that putting my hand “behind” me helped. I’ve put my hand behind to me before but putting it way behind my back while already twisted stopped me from twisting myself with my hands. It still feels really akward but when I was filming myself it looked pretty natural so hope that I’m doing it right
