Bent arm planks yes, Straight arm wall planks no#1664

S

Hi Hampton, I can do bent arm planks 3 sets for 60 seconds, which should take me to the next progression, straight arm wall planks, but I can’t do even one second of straight arm wall planks. I’ve tried with shoes, socks and bare feet. My feet just slide off the wall. The problem might be because I don’t have enough shoulder/arm strength to push my feet against the wall while planking. Is there a progression in between bedtime planks and straight arm wall planks to help transition?

Yes! If you look at the picture of me doing it, my feet may be on a small ledge. Can you try that?

Hi again Hampton!
I can do 3 sets of 50 seconds of straight arm wall planks with feet on a snall ledge, but my feet still slide off the wall when I try without the ledge. :’(
Should I keep trying feet on the ledge straight arm planks with longer periods? Or should I move on to the next progression, bent arm wall planks, with feet on ledge?

Try the next progression and gradually put less weight on the wall! You eventually won’t need the wall, so the goal is to safely increase the amount that you can hold with your core and upper body.
