Tailbone hurts when doing leg raises on the mat#1196

As I’m going through the motion of leg raises, I do feel the core engaging when I’m lowering my legs. However, the movement seems to pivot on my tailbone and I feel the ache on the bone after a few reps. My lower back will lift as lower my legs. Am I doing it wrong it I just need more padding?

Great question Carolyn! When i first started lifting years ago, I felt that exact ache. Turns out my glutes were incredibly weak and since they werent developed enough, the forces from the eccentric phase of the leg lift went to my tailbone and it hurt. After a few weeks of leg press and squats, it went away.

If you really feel like everything’s in place and it’s just your tailbone that’s sticking out a bit that’s causing the issues (some of us are just built that way after all), more padding could definitely help - otherwise maybe an alternative exercise! see this https://support.hybridcalisthenics.com/694 :)
