Tailbone pain on Glute Bridges#1160

?

I just started working out again and at the time, going the full movement of glute bridges going up, instead of feeling the tensions in the muscle group that are indicated in the tutorial, I felt some pain in the back tail bone (I think sacrum is what it’s called) and the edge of my quad close to my knee. The ‘sacrum’ also hurts when I’m just in a resting glute bridge position where it touches the ground, even though I’m using a mat. I wonder if this is a normal thing that’ll go away with progress, an incorrect form, or if I should be more concerned.

Hm!

Well it could be something that goes away as you get stronger in those positions, allowing your muscles to more properly support the joints involved - as right now they might not quite be doing that and the joint itself or smaller muscles have to take too much load and that’s causing the pain

It could also be due to incorrect form which doesn’t quite allow your muscles to work as they “need to”; though that’s a bit hard to judge without seeing you do it! You can share a video if you’d like to/are comfortable

I would advise to work with isometric holds (just holding the position instead of going up and down) of the glute bridge for the time being to help build up some strength, playing around with slight adjustments in stance width and pelvis position to see if you can alleviate it

And otherwise if that just still is painful, here are some alternatives that should allow you to work the necessary muscles without doing the bridges directly, in hope of alleviating the issue and coming back to it down the line! https://support.hybridcalisthenics.com/953

I hope that helps! :)
Let me know if not - and hey, if this is what you’re experiencing, this video gives even more insight and options! (great channel overall)

thanks for the answer! here’s the video of me doing glute bridges. the video is very informative as well, I think if worse comes to worse I’ll try out some other exercises instead.

The form looks good! So I’d say that’s not the issue - I hope that some of the other adjustments/options help then! :)

Yeah, I have the same issue. It’s supposedly SI joint issues in my case. Doing bridges doesn’t hurt, per se but there is a strange sensation for sure. There is popping sound and feeling when I’m bringing the bridge down. I’ve mentioned it to doctors and physical therapists and everyone seems clueless.
